GSC Men's Basketball Weekly Awards: Dec. 9

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced Union’s Will Lovings-Watts (player) and Mississippi College’s Phil Nelson (freshman) as its fourth men’s basketball weekly award winners of the 2025-26 season, following their performances from Dec. 1-7.

GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Will Lovings-Watts, Jr., G, Union

Lovings-Watts averaged 25 points and eight rebounds as the Bulldogs went 1-1 on the week and picked up their first win in GSC play. The junior had a standout performance to earn a double-double with 26 points and 11 defensive rebounds in an 84-78 win over Delta State. Lovings-Watts also registered 24 points and five rebounds, while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in an 85-71 loss to Mississippi College.

GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Phil Nelson, Fr., G, Mississippi College

Nelson averaged 19.5 points, three rebounds and 2.5 assists to help Mississippi College start GSC play 2-0 with wins over Christian Brothers and Union. The rookie shot .67 from the field for 17 points, while recording three rebounds and three assists in an 84-76 win over Christian Brothers. He also made timely shots and hit 22 points with 11-of-12 free throws made in an 85-71 win over Union.
