BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced its inaugural women's lacrosse preseason all-conference team. Flagler (Lexie Morton, Ella Pinder, Lauren Ribadeneira and Jenn Seebach) and Lander (Autumn Hussey, Brooke Kelly, Emmy Peterson, Alyssa Suchan) led all teams with four selections.
Alabama Huntville followed with three selections (Sarah Cole, Riley Kirby and Isadora Springer), while Lee (Kelsey McGowan and Brittney White) had two.
This season's "Newcomers to Watch" included 15 first-year GSC players. The 2024 list featured 12 true-freshmen and three transfers.
2024 NEWCOMERS TO WATCH
The preseason All-GSC team was chosen by a vote of the league's head coaches and is comprised of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, four attackers and one specialist. Returning student-athletes were voted based on position and coaches could not vote for members from their own team. The newcomers highlighted were submitted by their respective team.
The conference's first-ever preseason lineup recognized 13 players with eight First Team All-GSC honorees from last season. Flagler's Morton was the lone selection that received IWLCA All-America accolades in 2023, while Lander's Huskey, Peterson and UAH's Springer picked up Academic All-District laurels from the College Sports Communicators.
In addition, the preseason squad was highlighted by the 2023 GSC Player and Freshman of the Year, with Flagler's Morton (Player) and Pinder (Freshman) named. Morton led the GSC in goals (75), goals per game (4.17) and points (90). Pinder meanwhile was third among GSC leaders in draw controls (84) and draw controls per game (4.42).
The 2024 season begins February 1 with the first conference matchup slated for March 24 and concluding on April 20. Teams will play an each GSC opponent once for a total of six conference games with half guaranteed as home contests. The entire 2024 schedule can be found here.
The GSC Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place April 26 and 28 with the No. 1-seeded serving as host. The top four teams in the standings will compete in the single-elimination tournament.
