Football Players of the Week: Week 8

Following Week 8, the Gulf South Conference Football Offensive, Defensive, Special Teams and Freshman of the Week were announced on Oct. 25. Below are the honorees:

Offensive Player of the Week: Seth McGill, RB – Valdossta State
McGill ran for 112 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns as No. 2 Valdosta State recorded a 41-14 victory at Mississippi College. McGill eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the fourth time this season. The junior had a pair of four-yard runs for scores in the second half giving the Blazers a 27-0 lead and a 34-7 lead, respectively.

Defensive Player of the Week: Sherrod Paige, DB – Delta State
Paige had three tackles and one interception in Delta State's 35-30 win over No. 15 West Alabama. The junior recorded a 33-yard pick-six in the third quarter giving the Statesmen a 28-17 lead. It was it his GSC-leading fourth interception of the season.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Omar Cervantes, K – West Georgia
Cervantes made two field goals from 30 and 34 yards, while going 4-for-4 in extra point attempts to help No. 4 West Georgia to a 34-12 win over North Greenville. The junior also had seven kick offs for 445 yards, averaging 62.9 yards, and five touchbacks

Freshman Player of the Week: Cole Kirk, QB – Delta State
In his second collegiate start, Kirk completed 14-of-24 passes for 225 yards with a touchdown, helping Delta State to a 28-17 win over No. 15 West Alabama. Kirk tossed a TD pass in the second quarter to give DSU A 21-10 lead.
