#GSCFB Players of the Week: Week 1
Offensive Player of the Week: Austin Reed, QB – West Florida
Reed threw for 380 yards and 4 touchdowns - both tops in the GSC - in a 42-36 win at Division I McNeese State on Saturday. The passing yards were a UWF record in a season opener and the most in the GSC this year. Seven of 19 completions by the sophomore went for 24 yards or better, with big play completions of 74, 44, 36, 34, 28, 26, and 24 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week: Mondrell Jefferson, DB — Valdosta State
Jefferson had two fumble returns for touchdowns, one on defense and one on special teams en route to helping the Blazers to a 53-7 victory over Savannah State on Saturday. The two scores came during a one minute and 25 seconds of game time in the second quarter. They were his first fumble returns of his career and first two touchdowns. The senior also finished six total tackles, including four solo stops.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Estin Thiele, K – Valdosta State
Thiele converted a career-high 50-yard field goal, and went 5-for-5 in extra-points. The sophomore also averaged 64.1 yards on eight kickoffs (513 yards) with five touchbacks in a 53-7 victory over Savannah State on Saturday.

Freshman of the Week: Cody Gast, DE – West Georgia
Gast totaled 11 tackles in his collegiate debut in West Georgia's 45-7 win over #24 Carson-Newman on Thursday night. The freshman registered seven solo stops and four assists, with 2.5 tackles for loss, playing a big part in helping UWG limit Carson-Newman to 194 yards of total offense.
