Football Players of the Week: Week 5
Following Week 5, the Gulf South Conference Football Offensive, Defensive, Special Teams and Freshman of the Week were announced on Oct. 4. Below are the honorees:
Offensive Player of the Week: DeAnte Smith-Moore, QB – Mississippi College
Smith-Moore rushed for a team-high 110 yards on 22 carries, while converting 3-of-5 attempts for 98 yards, as he led the Choctaws to a 42-21 win over North Greenville. The sophomore quarterback finished with five total touchdowns, including four on the ground where while averaging 5.0 yards a run in addition to the 19.6 yards he averaged in the air.

Defensive Player of the Week: Shea Campbell, LB – West Florida
Campbell recorded 12 tackles, a sack and forced fumble in West Florida's 39-33 road win over Delta State on Saturday. The graduate linebacker's forced fumble came on the first play after UWF cut the deficit to 33-31. The Argos then scored the game-winning touchdown on the ensuring possession.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Gabriel Dunkle, K – West Alabama
Dunkle was 5-for-5 in extra point attempts and converted a 41-yard field attempt that helped West Alabama knock off West Georgia, 38-20, on the road. The senior also had seven kickoffs for an average of 61.4 yards.

Freshman Player of the Week: Jared Smith, WR – West Florida
Smith finished with three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown, as UWF rallied for a 39-33 win over Delta State. The freshman wideout snared his first career TD on a 17-yard toss to open the second half. Smith then added added a pair a six-yard receptions that proceeded UWF's scores on two separate drives.
