Lee Sits in First After Day One of 2026 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

MONTEVALLO, Ala. — Lee sits at the top of the men’s and women’s standings as the 2026 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships commenced Wednesday, April 29 at the Montevallo Track & Field Stadium in Montevallo, Ala.

The Flames are currently in first with 67 points after winning three of five events. Mississippi College is in second with 47 points, while UAH follows in third just two points behind with 45.

The Lady Flames are at the top with three event wins good for 80.5 points. UAH is currently in second with 51.5 points, while Mississippi College sits at third with 45 points.

UAH’s Jadlyn Debardlabon was a standout in the women’s long jump, winning with a mark of 5.86m. Mississippi College’s Madison Flugence finished second (5.59m) and Lee’s Jydia Faucette was third (5.51m).

In men’s long jump, UAH’s Malik Turner took first for the second consecutive season with a distance of 7.28m. Montevallo duo Jeremiah Fails (7.15m) and Corey Perkins (7.09m) placed second and third, respectively.

For the third straight year, Lee’s Brynn Depinet won the women’s pole vault (3.70m), while teammate Addison Kohlmeier was second as she cleared 3.65m. Lady Choctaw Isabella Magyar rounded out the top three at 3.25m.

Lee rookie Shaw Helfrich secured the men’s pole vault title, clearing 4.80m, UAH’s Ben Rouse came in second (4.70m). Montevallo Falcon Alonzo Abara placed third as he cleared 4.50m.

UAH’s Hailey Smith captured the women’s hammer throw title with a mark of 51.53m, good for fourth best in meet history. Charger teammate Sarah Tang placed third (47.95m), while Mississippi College’s Kennedy Thompson was second (49.40m).

Mississippi College’s Jacob Keesee set a GSC Championship record for men’s record hammer throw with a toss of 57.60m, while teammate James Miller followed in second (54.11m). Montevallo’s Christopher Johnson finished in third, throwing for a distance of 52.98m.

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase, Lee senior Maria Mitchell ran a 10:06.76 good for first place and a GSC meet record. Lady Flame teammate Ava Sparks claimed third (10:44.43) and Mississippi College’s Bre Ball placed second (10:35.01).

Lee duo Stephen Clark (8:58.04) and Parker Campbell (9:04.59) earned first and second in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, respectively. UAH sophomore Cole Robinson finished in third, logging a time of 9:10.27.

Lee dominated the women’s 10000m with three of the top five finishers. Lady Flame tandem Aria Hawkins (39:05.99) and Capucine Cureau (39:10.72) led the way, while Mississippi College’s Kinley Harris rounded out the top three (39:26.41).

Another Lee duo, Tucker Wright (30:44.28) and Edimo Ninteretse (30:48.67) garnered first and second place finishes in the men’s 10000m, while Choctaw Braedon Methvin was third (30:54.95).
