LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Athletic Department announced it will sponsor Indoor Track & Field during the 2025-26 academic year.
The 2025-26 season for the Tigers is slated to begin in December and will run through February with the GSC Championships on Feb. 19-20 in Birmingham, Ala. West Alabama announcement to add indoor track & field season grows the GSC profile to seven member institutions.
Over the last few seasons, UWA has become a formidable opponent during the outdoor track & field season, highlighted by last Spring's performances by Balikis Yakubu, Augusta Arnold and Brayden Harris who each won gold medals during the GSC Championships. Yabuku also qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field.
"I am very excited and thankful for this opportunity that President Fritch and Athletic Director Gilliland have decided to provide our student athletes," said head coach Sterling Martin. "This opportunity to race during the indoor season will accelerate the development of our programs at the conference and national level."
