EMPORIA, Kan –Day two of the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships witnessed solid performances from Gulf South Conference student-athletes on Friday, May 24, at the Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas.

Men’s Highlights:
- Cale Kassen from Lee finished second in the decathlon with a score of 7579. Kassen also advanced to tomorrow’s finals for the 110m hurdles after posting a time of 14.02 in the prelims.
- The Flames’ 4x400m relay team qualified for Saturday’s finals with a time of 3:08.77. Mississippi College’s 4x400 relay team also advanced to tomorrow’s finals, completing the prelims in 3:07.30.
Women’s Highlights:
- T’oni Birden of West Georgia placed 16th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.18, a personal best.
- Yakubu Balikis from West Alabama advanced to tomorrow’s 200m finals after finishing sixth in the prelims with a time of 23.32.
- Mckenna Cavanaugh of Lee earned All-American honors by placing sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:26.34.
The final day of the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships starts Saturday, May 25 with the men’s javelin throw at 11:30 am central. Fans can stream the event starting at 1:40 pm central time here.
