BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced West Alabama’s Christian Thompson (player) and Trevecca Nazarene’s Fred Bailey (freshman) as its seventh men’s basketball weekly award winners of the 2025-26 season, following their performances from Dec. 29-Jan. 4.
GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christian Thompson, Jr., F, West Alabama
Thompson averaged 15.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in three games played on the week to help the Tigers extend their win streak to 11 games. The junior forward shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the field with 17 points and added 13 rebounds for a double-double in a 108-55 win over Williams Baptist. He also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-62 win over Union and was just shy another with 16 points and nine rebounds in an 80-57 win over Christian Brothers. This is Thompson’s first GSC weekly award of his career.

GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Fred Bailey, Fr., G, Trevecca Nazarene
Bailey averaged 10.5 points, six rebounds and 6.5 assists as Trevecca Nazarene went 2-0 on the week. The rookie registered four points, six rebounds and four assists in an 89-74 over Cumberland (TN). Bailey’s best performance of the week came in an 78-63 conference win over Lee where he shot 57 percent from the field for 17 points with six rebounds and nine assists. This is Bailey’s third GSC Freshman of the Week award of the 2025-26 season as he also earned it Nov. 18 and 25.
