BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Gulf South Conference teams garnered three non-conference wins on Saturday during Week 2 action, as Valdosta State and West Florida notched region wins while West Alabama highlighted the weekend with a top-25 victory.

Delta State slipped to 2-1 on the year as it fell to UNC Pembroke, 25-21. The Statesmen led 21-10 early in the fourth before UNCP scored 15 unanswered points. Cole Kirk led the DSU offense throwing for 183 yards and rushing for a team-high 46 yards. Tye Holsey and William Carter again led DSU defense with 22 combined tackles.
Valdosta State scored 42-straight points as it dominated Chowan, 56-3. The Blazers improved to 2-1 on the year the offense registered 475 total yards, while the defense held the Hawks to 31 yards rushing and 233 overall. Corey Reddick Jr. led Valdosta State with 119 rushing yards, three touchdowns on 13 carries, while Ashaud Roberson had 108 yards on three carries.
Trailing 24-13, West Alabama (3-0) scored 15 fourth quarter points, downing No. 22 Charleston (WV), 28-24, at Tiger Stadium. UWA finished on the short side of 508 to 398 margin in total offensive yards. Spencer Arceneaux led the rally connecting with Darrius Nelson for a 14-yard touchdown pass before scoring the game-winner with a 71-yard run.
Marcus Stokes had another standout performance throwing for 258 yards with three touchdowns as West Florida thumped Shorter, 42-20. Corey Scott led all receivers with 95 yards on five catches. The Argonauts moved to 3-0 on the year as the defense held Shorter to 87 passing yards.
