The Gulf South Conference announced its Football Players of the Week following Week 1 performances of the 2025 season. West Alabama quarterback Spencer Arceneaux (offensive) and punter Austin McCready (special teams) as well as Delta State defensive lineman Alex Larry (defensive) were each recognized. 
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Spencer Arceneaux, Sr., QB, West Alabama
Arceneaux led the Tigers offense, tying a career-high with four touchdowns (two passing, two running), in a 38-28 road win over Chowan. The senior quarterback accounted for 261 of West Alabama’s 379 yards, as he threw 181 yards and ran for 80 more.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Larry, Jr., DL, Delta State
Larry led the Statesmen with a team-high nine tackles, including five solo stops, as Delta State registered a 41-9 win over North Greenville. The junior defensive lineman also logged 2.5 sacks totaling six yards and one tackle for loss for six yards. He headlined a defensive unit that held the NGU to 77 rushing yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Austin McCready, Sr., P, West Alabama
McCready contributed to West Alabama’s 38-28 win at Chowan with two points totaling 93 yards. He averaged 46.5 yards per kick and had a long of 51 yards, that pinned the Hawks inside their own five-yard line.
