BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference opened the 2025 campaign with four non-conference wins, including three against Super Region 2 opponents.
Delta State opened the season with a Thursday night over at home as it upended No. 22 Central Missouri, 31-23, as dual-threat quarterback Cole Kirk accounted for 376 yards and two touchdowns.
The next night West Florida dominated Lenoir-Rhyne at home in a top-20 match. The Argonauts led 31-7 the half before finishing the night with over 500 yards of offense. Marcus Stokes highlighted the offense as he went 20-for-29 passing with four touchdowns and 353 yards.
Valdosta State's Graham Craig and West Alabama's Scott Cochran each registered head coaching career win number one with solid results at the Week Zero Labor Day Classic at Legion Field in Birmingham.
