BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference men’s soccer coaches tabbed West Florida as the favorite in the 2025 preseason poll, as the league also announced its preseason all-conference team and newcomers to watch.
The poll and preseason team were determined via an online ballot by the GSC’s 12 head men’s soccer coaches, who were not able to vote for their own team or student-athletes.
The Argonauts, who won the GSC regular season title last season, received eight first-place votes and topped the preseason rankings with 117 points. Reigning GSC tournament champion Auburn Montgomery was second with 106 points and two first-place votes, while Christian Brothers also garnered two first-place votes and trailed AUM by one-point.

Mississippi College was picked fourth, while Lee rounded out the top five. West Alabama was projected to finish sixth, followed by Delta State, with Trevecca Nazarene and Montevallo tied for eighth.
The 2025 GSC Preseason All-Conference selections featured 15 players from seven schools. The squad is headlined by Mississippi College senior forward Lewis Matton, who earned GSC Offensive Player of the Year honors last season. He is also one of five names on the preseason lineup that earned postseason All-GSC recognition in 2024.
Mississippi College led all teams with a conference-best four players on the preseason team. Auburn Montgomery and Christian Brothers followed with three apiece. West Alabama had two, while UAH, Delta State and Montevallo were represented with one each.
The conference also unveiled its 2025 Newcomer Watchlist, featuring 26 players from nine schools. Names and information were submitted by each team’s head coach. Click here to see the complete list.
The 2025 campaign marks the 30th year of GSC men’s soccer. The schedule kicks off Thursday, Sept. 4, with conference action beginning September 17. The GSC Men’s Soccer Championship is set for Nov. 9–16, with the semifinal and final rounds returning to Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Ala.
