BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The GSC football race tightened on Saturday, as No. 17 Delta State outlasted No. 11 West Alabama in a thriller, while Valdosta State No. 3  West Florida garnered non-conference wins during Week 8.

In a marquee top-20 matchup, Delta State edged West Alabama 41-38 in a shootout to open its GSC schedule. The Statesmen held a dominant 34-17 lead at halftime. The Tigers clawed back in the second half, cutting the gap to three points with just over two minutes remaining. DSU finished with 453 offensive yards, while UWA racked up 429 yards.

Valdosta State recorded a 35-24 win over North Greenville. The Blazers posted 21 points in the second quarter to break open the game and held off the Crusaders in the second half. 

West Florida dominated West Virginia State with a 55-6 rout. The Argo offense amassed 478 yards while defense held WVSU to 132 total yards, including 45 rushing yards.
