BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Three teams were represented as the Gulf South Conference announced its Football Players of the Week following Week 7 performances of the 2025 season. West Florida’s Marcus Stokes (offensive) and Michael Shine (special teams) as well as West Alabama’s JT Hooten (defensive) and Delta State’s Dean Roberts (freshman) were each recognized.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marcus Stokes, R-So., QB, West Florida

• Threw for 327 yards in the Argonauts 23-16 win at No. 8 West Alabama.
• Tossed for two touchdowns while completing 24-of-36 passes.
• Notched fourth game this season with 300+ passing yards.
• Earned GSC offensive honors for third consecutive week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JT Hooten, So., LB, West Alabama

• Had a game-high 14 tackles in the Tigers’ 23-16 loss to No. 3 West Alabama.
• Second most tackles by a GSC player this season. 
• Tallied three solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss totaling eight yards, one sack for six yards, and one quarterback hurry.
• Earned second GSC weekly defensive award, first since Sept. 15.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Michael Shine, Sr., P, West Florida

• Helped West Florida to a 23-16 win at No. 8 West Alabama.
• Had five punts totaling 195 yards with two pinning UWA inside its own 20.
• Averaged 39 yards per punt had registered a long of 55 yards.
• Second consecutive GSC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Dean Roberts, K, Delta State

• Scored nine points in Delta State’s 51-10 rout over Ferrum.
• Converted a 21-yard field goal in the third quarter, giving the Statesmen a 37-10 lead.
• Converted six extra point kicks attempts.
