Lee Capture Third-Consecutive GSC All-Sports Trophy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced the final standings of the 2022-23 All-Sports Trophy.

Sitting atop the overall standings for the third consecutive season was Lee University with 134.875 points.

The Flames capture seven total GSC championships during the 2022-23 academic year, winning a regular-season title in women’s basketball, while claiming tournament crowns in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s indoor track & field, women’s golf, and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field. Lee also earned postseason runner-up finishes in women’s soccer and women’s basketball.

In addition, Lee also topped both men’s and women’s All-Sports Trophy standings, making it the first school in conference-history to sweep all three awards in three-straight years since the overall award was introduced in 2013-14.

ALL-SPORT TROPHY HISTORY

West Florida finished second in the overall standings with 114.000 points. The Argonauts collected seven GSC champions, winning both regular and tournament titles in volleyball and baseball. They also won the regular season title in women’s soccer, a tournament title in men’s golf and claimed a share of the conference title for football.

Mississippi College rounded out the top three in the overall standings with 113.625 points. The Choctaws captured GSC postseason titles in women’s soccer and men’s indoor track field, while also placing second in the regular season in softball.

The remainder of the Overall All-Sports Standings saw Montevallo finish fourth (104.750) and Alabama Huntsville at fifth (94.000). West Alabama was in sixth with 76.125 points, followed by Valdosta State (70250), Auburn Montgomery (70.000), West Georgia (58.250) and Christian Brothers (58.250). Union finished 11th (58.125), Shorter trailed at 12th (43.125), while Delta State rounded out the conference order with 41.875 points.

The Overall All-Sports Trophy counts all sports that a school sponsors, with its regular-season finish in the standings country towards 75 percent of the final rank, and a tournament finish making up the other 25 percent. Affiliate members are included in the calculations but do not qualify for All-Sports Trophy. 

The GSC will present the All-Sports Trophies on Thursday, June 1 in Pensacola, Fla., as part of the conference’s annual award banquet.
