Three Baseball Teams Selected for NCAA Postseason

INDIANAPOLIS — West Florida, Montevallo and Valdosta State are among the field set to participate in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship, as announced by the Division II Baseball Committee on Sunday evening.

As a conference, the announcement marks the fifth consecutive season, and 30th all-time, that three or more teams represented the Gulf South Conference in the NCAA postseason. 

After missing the NCAA postseason in 2022, West Florida returns to competition making its eighth appearance in program-history. The Argos, who were the GSC’s automatic qualifier after winning the conference tournament title, will become play as the No. 2-seed in the South Region Championship.

UWF will carry a 37-15 overall record, including a 34-15 in-region mark during the regular season. The Argos will open against No. 7-seed Florida Southern, an at-large selection from the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).

Montevallo will be the No. 3-seed in the region championship after posting a 36-14 in-region record during the regular season and are 38-15 overall. The Falcons, an at-large selection, will make their first NCAA trip since 2018 and fourth all-time. UM will face SSC member and No. 6-seed Barry in its opening game. 

Valdosta State, an at-large selection, will make its second-consecutive appearance and 13th all-time. The Blazers head into the the regional tournament as the No. 5-seed carrying a 34-18 record including a 33-16 record in-region. VSU will open against fourth-seeded Rollins from the SSC.

The tournament will being with regional championships held May 18-21. The South Region Championship will be broken into two four-team pods with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds hosting. Montevallo will be hosted by West Florida, while Valdosta State will also head south as it will be hosted by top-seeded Tampa. 

Winner of each pod will advance to the super regional scheduled Mat 26-27. The finals will be June 3-10 at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
