BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — West Florida hurler Dalton Neuschwander was selected on day two of the the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft, while Montevallo pitcher Adiel Melendez signed a free agent contract.
Neuschwander was the 304th overall pick as he was selected in the 10th round by the Baltimore Orioles. It was the second consecutive season the Argonauts had a player picked within the first 10 rounds, as Darrien McDowell was chosen in the sixth round of the 2024 draft.
A three-year starter for UWF, Neuschwander’s career numbers include a 2.55 ERA, 27-7 record with two saves in 47 appearances. He also pitched 268 innings with 213 career strikeouts and .233 opponent batting average. In 2023, he was a consensus All-American and the consensus South Region Pitcher of the Year according to ABCA, NCBWA and D2CCA.
Following the conclusion of the 2025 MLB Draft, Montevallo left-hander Adiel Melendez signed a free agent agreement with the Atlanta Braves.
Melendez pitched over 165 innings during his career with the Falcons, finishing with 15 wins, 28 starts, and 164 strikeouts while holding a career 3.21 ERA and .255 batting average against. In 2025, Melendez garnered multiple accolades being named All First Team All-GSC, GSC All-Tournament Team, NCBWA First-Team, and D2CCA First-Team All-Region.
