DALLAS — The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its Division II Regional Players of the Week awards for the week ending on April 9, 2023. Lee redshirt-junior outfielder Dylan Standifer was named South Region Hitter of the Week, while Valdosta State graduate left-hander JP Gates was named South Region Pitcher of the Week.

Standifer helped lead Lee to a series win over nationally-ranked Montevallo. The redshirt-junior posted a .615 batting average behind a 8-for-13 clip at the plate, while driving in five runs and touching home plate six times himself. He notched back-to-back three-hit games against the Falcons during the opening two games of the series while accounting for five runs scored, before belting a two-run homer in the series finale to help the Flames register a 7-6 win and secure a series win.

Gates went 1-0 in two relief appearances this week with a 1.12 ERA. The graduate pitcher pitched a team-high eight innings, allowing six hits, two runs (one earned), walked two and fanned a team-high 11 as opponents hit just .222 against him. The lefty-hander opened the week by tossing two innings against No. 2 Tampa in a 15-14 win. His next appearance on the bump was a six-inning relief effort against West Alabama, striking out 10 of 21 batters faced while surrendering one run (unearned) on two hits en route to being credited with the win and improving to 4-0 on the season.

This marks the fifth time in 10 weeks the Gulf South Conference swept NCBWA South Region weekly awards. Standifer also became the ninth NCBWA regional hitting awardee from the GSC this season, while also being the conference's eighth different player honored. Gates is the fourth different GSC pitcher to be recognized this season. 

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
