Delta State, Lee, West Florida Tally Wins on Day 3 of GSC Baseball Championship

OXFORD, Ala. — Delta State, Lee, and West Florida each earned wins on Sunday as the 2026 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship continued with day three action from Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
 
The tournament resumes Monday and will feature a triple-header beginning with an elimination game between No. 5-seed Delta State and No. 6-seed Trevecca Nazarene (Game 7) at 11 am CT, followed by No. 2-seed Lee take on No. 4-seed West Florida (Game 8) at 2:30 pm. Day four will close with another elimination game as the winner of Game 7 faces the loser of Game 8 with first pitch slated for 6:30 pm.

Delta State 7, West Alabama 1 | Box Score
  • Delta State eliminated top-seeded West Alabama, making it the fifth time in the last six seasons that the tournament’s No. 1-seed does not advance to the championship game.
  • DSU pitcher Mason Stropshire dominated early and often before seeing his no-hit bid get broken up in the eighth. He was credited the win after throwing 7.2-scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, allowing one run on one hit, and four walks.
  • Seven Delta State batters finished with hit including Tucker Jones and Cade Greer who were each 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • The Statesmen scored twice in the second, four in the fifth and once in the sixth.
  • West Alabama was limited to three hits as Nick Wilson and Aaron Wallace each went 1-for-3, while pinch hitter Diego Bryant (1-for-1) had an RBI-double in the eighth, providing the lone Tiger run. 
  • Colin Woodham (4.1 IP/5 H/3 R/4 K) was charged with the loss for the Tigers.
 
West Florida 7, Trevecca 5 | Box Score
  • The Argonauts remained unbeaten in the tournament, while Trevecca slipped to 2-1 despite outhitting West Florida, 12-8.
  • Six West Florida batters finished with at least a hit, while seven players recorded an RBI. Tanner Taylor and Greg Pettay each had a two-hit day, while Trent Kelly was walked three times.
  • Caleb Webster led the Trojans with a 3-for-5 outing, while Drew Bradley and Rylan Moses were each 2-for-5. Bradley and Webster also finished with two-RBI each.
  • UWF’s Blake Thompson (1.2 IP /1 H/0 R/1K) got the win, while Mickey Sheetz (1.0 IP/1 H/0 R/2 K) picked up his 13th save of the season.
  • Jonah Smithson (4.0 IP/6 H/7 R/3 K) was charged with the loss for Trevecca.
  • The teams combined for eight runs in the runs in the first inning, before UWF took a 7-4 lead as it scored once in each of the next three innings. Trevecca scored once in fifth but was unable to continue its rally, notching just one hit in its final 10 trips to the plate.
 
Lee 13, Mississippi College 12 | Box Score
  • Trailing 12-4 in the home half of the eighth, Lee surged late with a nine-run inning capped off by a two-out grand slam by Luke Collier, giving the Flames a 13-12 lead. 
  • After pushing one run across in the fourth, Mississippi College plated four in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 9-4 lead after seven, while Lee scored twice in third and sixth. 
  • The Choctaws advantage ballooned to eight in the eighth as they added runs from Ty Murphy, Will Langston and Alex Johnson.
  • The teams combined for 25 runs on 32 hits. Lee narrowly led in hits, 17-15.
  • Collier and Nate Carabello were both 3-for-5 on the day, while JJ Williams went 3-for-4. Landon Franklin (2-for-5), Braden Gabel (2-for-3) and Kellin Sanders (2-for-3) also had multi-hit outings.
  • Landon Nease (0.1 IP/0 H/0 R/0 K) was credited with the win for Lee, while Cody Turner (1.0 IP/1 H/0 R/2 K) picked up his sixth save of the season. 
  • Mississippi College’s Taylor Ballard (0.2 IP/1 H/1 R/2 K) was dealt the loss.
  • Johnson led the Choctaw offense with a 4-for-6, three-RBI effort. Murphy followed with a 3-for-4 showing and three runs scored, while Langston (2-for-4, 4 R) and Cade Gadman (2-for-6) also contributed for the cause.
