The Gulf South Conference represents half of the field in the South Regional of the 2026 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship as UAH, Montevallo, West Alabama and West Florida were each selected. It is the eighth straight season three of more GSC teams go to the 64-team event, and the 11th time since 2000 that four or more represent the league.
NCAA BRACKET
West Alabama (26-5), the GSC regular season champion, will be the region’s No. 3-seed and make its seventh NCAA postseason trip and first since 2023. The Tigers open the tournament against No. 6-seed West Florida in a rematch of the GSC Championship title game. The Argonauts (25-8) make their first NCAA appearance since 2018 after winning the GSC tournament title and securing the conference’s automatic bid.
Montevallo (21-8) returns to the NCAA tournament for the first time since as member of the GSC since 2007. The Falcons enter as the No. 5-seed and face No. 4-seed Florida Southern of the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).
UAH (21-9) will make its conference-leading 17th trip to the NCAA tournament. The Chargers are the No. 7-seed and will open their run against No. 2-seed Palm Beach Atlantic from the SSC.
The GSC has eight DII Elite Eight appearances since 2000, with Montevallo making back-to-back trips in 2006 and 2007, while UAH did the same in 2011 and 2012. The conference has won three NCAA Division II national titles with North Alabama’s title in 1991 being the last.
The NCAA tournament will tip-off with regional play on March 14 and conclude with the region title game on March 17. The South Region bracket will be played at Rick Case Arena in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and hosted by No. 1-seed Nova Southeastern. Region champions will advance to the Pittsburgh for the Division II Elite Eight, March 25 and 27. The championship game will be April 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
