Top Four Seeds Advance to Winner's Bracket on Day 1 of GSC Softball Championship

OXFORD, Ala. — The 2025 Gulf South Conference Softball Championship began Wednesday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala., with the top-four seeds—Auburn Montgomery, West Florida, Mississippi College and Alabama Huntsville—advancing to the winner's bracket.

Day two of the tournament will feature elimination games between sixth-seeded West Alabama and seventh-seeded Montevallo (10:00 AM CT), and fifth-seeded Valdosta State versus eighth-seeded Trevecca Nazarene (12:30 PM). The remainder of the day will showcase winner's bracket games as No. 2-seed West Florida taking on No. 3-seed Mississippi College (3:30 PM) and top-seeded AUM square off with No. 4-seed UAH (6:00 PM). All four games will be streamed live on FloCollege and fans planning to attend can purchase tickets at gscsports.org/sbchamp25.
 
Game 1 | Mississippi College 4, West Alabama 2
  • Both pitchers went the distance with MC's Madison Jenkins collecting the win while UWA's Madison Wright was dealt the loss. Jenkins tossed eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings, with five walks and two runs on two hits. Wright went 6.0 innings with five strikeouts, two walks and four runs on six hits. 
  • UWA's Trinity Hatcher opened the scoring thanks to a MC throwing error in the first, while Riley Sullivan crossed home on sac fly in the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-2.
  • Madelyn England (2-for-2, 3 RBI) belted a solo home run in the first, tying the game at 1-1. She then plated two more runs in the fifth with a double to left center. Abby Lightcap also recorded an RBI with a single in the sixth.
 
Game 2 | West Florida 3, Montevallo 2
  • Trailing 2-1, Jessie Baughan (2-for-2, 2 RBI, BB)  lifted UWF to victory with a walk-off triple in the seventh, while Erin Moon had an RBI-single in the fourth to tie it at one-all. 
  • Both Falcons runs were the result of Argonaut errors as Skylar Johnson crossed home in the second before Kiley Christopher scored in the fifth. 
  • UWF Hannah Harper was credited with the win after working 3.0 relief innings with one run on one hit and one walks. Meanwhile, Taylor Lloyd pitching 6.0 innings allowing seven hits, three runs, two earned, three walks and three strikeouts.
 
Game 3 | UAH 5, Valdosta State 0
  • UAH's Katie Bracken collected a complete-game shutout. She surrendered one hit, walked five and struck out six. Claire Maulding was charged with the loss for the Blazers, allowing two runs on hits.
  • Lawren Hayes (2-for-4) finished with two RBI, driving in a run in the third and one in the fourth. Jada Henderson (3-for-3) also had an RBI in the third and scored in the fifth, while Kinley Adams scored twice and went 2-for-3.
  • Valdosta State's lone hit of the game was recorded by Charlotte Phillips in top half of the first.
 
Game 4 | AUM 1, Trevecca 0
  • Deadlocked in a scoreless tie in the sixth, AUM's Meredith Kellum doubled to right center to push across Rebecca Komers for the game's lone run. 
  • AUM's was credited with the win as the rookie dominated from the pitching circle. She worked a seven-inning complete-game shutout performance with five strikeouts, one walk, and one hit. She retired nine of the first 10 batters she faced and did not surrender a hit to the Trojans until a single in the sixth broke up her no-hit bid. 
  • Ashlan Sensing also turned in a big performance from the circle, despite being charged with TNU's loss. The senior pitched six innings, struck out two and held an otherwise potent Warhawk offense to just one-run on five hits.
