UAH Lifts GSC Men's Basketball Tournament Trophy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Top-seeded Alabama Huntsville won the 2025 Truist Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship on Sunday at the Pete Hanna Center, with a 101-95 decision over second-seeded Valdosta State.

With the victory, the Chargers secured the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. The Blazers and the rest of the GSC will await to hear their name called tonight during the NCAA Selection Show and will tune into NCAA.com at 11 pm ET.

Six different Chargers finished with double-digit points. Blake Campbell led the way with 23 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists en route to being tabbed Most Outstanding Player. He was also a member of the all-tournament team alongside Tommy Murr, who finished with 22 points. Daniel Saylor registered a 14-point, 10-rebound effort.

Valdosta State’s Carlos Hart led all scorers with 29 points and had seven boards and five assists, while Drew Mills tallied 18 points. Both Blazers garnered all-tournament accolades, along with Delta State’s Chris Terrell and Montevallo’s Brandon Fussell.

UAH held a 47-40 lead into the intermission. Valdosta State tied the game three times in the second half before taking an 82-81 led with 4:21 to go. The advantage was short-lived as UAH retook a one-point lead eight seconds later. From then on, the Chargers never looked back, making four-of-five from the field and 11-of-12 from the line during the final four minutes of play.

The Blazers dominated the paint, tallying 64 points and finished with a 43-30 advantage on the glass. VSU shot 48.8 percent (39-80) from the field and converting 12-of-17 from the line. UAH meanwhile shot an efficient 32-of-60 (.533) from the floor and was 28-of-34 from the charity stripe.

Sunday’s contest was the highest scoring title game in GSC history and tied for third most points in any GSC tournament contest.
