UAH, Lee Win 2025 GSC Indoor Track & Field Title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The 2025 Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships concluded on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Lee won its sixth consecutive women’s title, topping the team standings record-setting a 267 points. Alabama Huntsville finished second with 189 points while Montevallo took third with 101 points. For the men, Alabama Huntsville collected 228 points to win the men’s title for the first time program history, while Lee was second (168 points) and Montevallo placed third (111 points) .

Lee picked up points in bunches as it had a first or second-place finisher in 10 of 11 events on day. It picked up gold medal performances from Liezl Theron (1.70m/5’ 7.0”) in the women’s high jump, Liz Lannom in the 60-meter hurdles (8.73), Lily Hare in the mile (4:51.55), and Samara Brinks in the weight throw (16.81m/55’ 2.0”). Aria Hawkins also picked up a pair of golds as she won the 3000 (9:55.81) and set a record in the 800 (2:09.85).

For the Chargers, Malik Turner took silver in the triple jump (13.87m/45’ 6.25”) before winning gold in the high jump (2.04m/6’ 8.25”). Wes Egalite won the 60-meter hurdles (8.18), while Chris Thomas won the 200-meter race (21.66). Sam Wilhelm set a championship event record in the 3000 (7:57.48).

Other notable performances included UAH women’s sprinter Jordyn Dortch who won both the 60 (7.64) and set a record in the 200 meters (23.96). Mississippi College’s James Miller won the men’s weight throw (17.22m), and Trevecca Nazarene’s Zion Griffin picked up the schools first GSC medal with silver in the 60-meter dash (6.89).

Following the event, the conference announced its Most Outstanding Performers for the event. Lee swept the women’s awards Theron claiming field honors, while Lannom won freshman, track and overall accolades. 

On the men’s side, Montevallo’s Austin Abney won freshman honors, while teammate Walter Womack claimed track accolades. UAH’s Turner took home a pair of honors as he won field and overall laurels.
