The Gulf South Conference announced its Softball Players of the Week for the 2024 season. This week's awards were for games played between April. 1-8.
Player of the Week
Marissa Mitchell, Jr., SS, West Alabama
Mitchell led West Alabama to a 4-1 record last week, with wins against Tuskegee and Lee. She recorded a .500 batting average (7-for-14) with a slugging percentage of 1.357 and an on-base percentage of .650. Mitchell contributed 11 RBI and 10 runs, hitting four home runs. In game two of the three-game series against the Lady Flames, Mitchell went 4-for-5 with three home runs and 8 RBI, setting a new West Alabama school record for RBI in a single game and tying the school and GSC record for home runs in a game, establishing a new career high for the Little Rock native.

Pitcher of the Week
Camryn Bailey, So., P, Mississippi College
Bailey secured two wins last week against Arkansas-Monticello and Valdosta State, boosting her season record to 17-3 on the mound. The sophomore struck out 20 batters over 15.0 innings across three games. Notably, in the first game against Valdosta State, Bailey set a new season high with 13 strikeouts in the 7-5 win. The Helena, Alabama, native limited batters to a mere .246 batting average throughout the week.

Freshman of the Week
Megan Waites, OF, Fr., West Georgia
Waites earned her second consecutive GSC Freshman of the Week award for her consistent performance at the plate. She posted a .500 batting average (5-for-10), a .600 slugging percentage, and a .688 on-base percentage. Waites recorded four runs, two RBI, and one double while also drawing five walks. In the second game against Georgia College, she went 2-for-2 with a double, scoring three times, and recorded an RBI along with two walks.
