GSC Men's Basketball Semifinals Matchups Set

The 2024 Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championship began on Tuesday with quarterfinal round action. West Georgia, Lee, and West Alabama all avoided upsets, while Alabama Huntsville rattled off a solid double-digit win. 

The tournament with resume on Saturday, March 9 with semifinal action from the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala. Top-seeded West Georgia will face No. 4-seed West Alabama with tip-off slated for 5 pm CT. Meanwhile, No. 2-seed Lee and No. 3-seed Alabama Huntsville will take the floor at 7:15 pm CT.

West Georgia 87, Union 76
  • West Georgia staved off the upset to reach the semifinals for the second consecutive season. 
  • UWG's Zawdie Jackson had a game-high 36 points to go along with four assists, three steals, and three rebounds.
  • Union was led by Ahmad Johnson's 17 points and four rebounds.
  • The Bulldogs led 43-39 at halftime.
  • West Georgia took a 56-55 lead with 9:17 left in the second half and never relinquished the lead. 
  • UWG had a 44-34 advantage in rebounds.
  • West Georgia was 29-36 from the free throw line, while Union was 15-19.
Lee 72, Mississippi College 60 
  • Lee advances to the semi-finals for the fifth time since the 2019-2020 season.
  • Lee was led by Beyuan Hendricks who scored 16 points, while Mississippi College was fueled by Rashad Bolden's 31 points.
  • Lee led 35-23 at the half.
  • Lee shot 56 percent from the court while Mississippi College shot just 38 percent.
  • The Choctaws outrebounded the Flames 32-25.
 
Alabama Huntsville 81, Christian Brothers 64
  • Alabama Huntsville advances to the semi-finals for the sixth time in seven years.
  • The Chargers held a 37-23 lead at the half. 
  • Jack Kostel led UAH with 20 points, while CBU was led by Andrew Eberhardt's 15 points.
  • UAH shot 54 percent from the field, while CBU shot only 35.7 percent.
  • The Chargers outrebounded the Buccaneers 41-32.
  • UAH shot 16 free throws compared to CBU's five.
 West Alabama 90, Delta State 79
  • Defending GSC champions West Alabama advances to the semi-finals for the third time in four years
  • West Alabama was led by Terry Durham's 26 points, while Delta State was led by Keithean Brooks' 27 points.
  • UWA held a slight 43-37 lead over DSU at the half.
  • West Alabama outrebounded DSU 40-22. 
  • West Alabama had outscored Delta State 46-30 in points in the paint. 
  • West Alabama shot 94 percent from the foul line compared to DSU's 64 percent.
