The Gulf South Conference announced its Men's Soccer Players of the Week for the 2022 season. This week's awards were for games played between September 26-October 2.
Offensive Player of the Week: Patrick Sacher, Sr., F, West Alabama
Sacher helped West Alabama to a 1-0-1 mark in conference action against Christian Brothers and Union last week as the Tigers extended their conference-unbeaten streak to seven games. The senior bagged a brace against Union on Sunday with a two-goal outing in just 34 minutes of play. He finished the week with 3-of-4 shots on frame while playing a total of 91 minutes.
Others nominated: Jamos Hauk (AUM); Arantes Caio (LU); Stan De Vries (UU); Narcis Dou Dalmau (UM); Jack Patching (UWF)
Defensive Player of the Week: Fynn Geigle, Fr., D, West Florida
Geigle helped to West Florida climb to second in the GSC standings following a pair of wins over Auburn Montgomery and nationally ranked Montevallo last weekend. The rookie defender started both games and was a key asset to the Argo backline as they limited No. 10 Montevallo to seven shots, while providing the assist in the game-winner during the 87th-minute. Geigle played all 180 minutes during the week and tallied three shots.
Others nominated: Harry Deveney (UWA); Alexander Kraus (AUM); Botond Nemeth (UU); Sebastian Flores (UM); Alvaro Martinez (CBU)
Freshman Player of the Week: Kendrick Hernandez, Fr., F, West Florida
Hernandez helped West Florida to a 2-0 week as it rose to second in the conference standings. During the week, the rookie played 137 minutes for the Argos and finished with two points. Hernandez, the second leading scorer for UWF, added to his season total with a strike in the 20th-minute against No. 10 Montevallo, which proved vital as the Argos tallied a 2-1 decision.
