The Gulf South Conference announced its men’s tennis weekly award winners of the 2025 season, following performances between March 31-April 6. Valdosta State swept the awards as Boruch Skierkier was name Player of the Week while Julien Doitteau was tabbed as Freshman of the Week.
Player of the Week:
Boruch Skierkier, Sr., Valdosta State
Skierkier, ranked No. 8 nationally in singles, went 3-0, improving to 10-1 overall and 6-0 at the No. 1 position. The senior defeated Columbus State’s Camilo Cano (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), and upset No. 4 Alex Benichou Blanchard of Mississippi College (2-6, 6-3, 6-0), before a straight set victory over No. 27 Giuseppe Bonaiuti of AUM (6-0, 6-4). Skierkier, teamed with Jan Skerbatis, went 3-0 in doubles as well at the No. 2 spot, highlighted by a 6-3 decision over MC’s Blanchard/Rafael Fabio, who were ranked No. 48-nationally. This is Skierkier’s second time named GSC Player of the Week this season, previously winning the award on Feb. 12.

Freshman of the Week:
Julien Doitteau, Fr., Valdosta State
Doitteau went 3-0 in singles this week, helping Valdosta State extend its win streak to 29th-straight dating back to last season and a 13-0 record this season. The rookie played at the No. 5 spot where he battled to three set victories against Columbus State’s Elias Peter (3-6, 6-2, 7-5), Mississippi College’s Alvaro Saint Martin (4-6, 6-3, 7-6), before a straight set result against AUM’s Augustin Wallert (6-3, 6-1). He played doubles at No. 3 with Xaveam Van Wijk against Columbus State, but the Blazers clinched the doubles point before the match was finished. Doitteau picked up his fourth GSC Freshman of the Week for the season as his single record improved to 8-1 overall with a 6-1 record at the No. 5 spot.
