Prior to tip-off of the 2025 Truist Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball, the league’s All-GSC and major award winners for the 2024-25 season were announced. All awards were voted by the Conference’s 12 head coaches, who could not vote for candidates from their own team.
Alabama Huntsville took home two of the three major awards as guard Tommy Murr was named GSC Player of the Year, while Mick Hedgepeth was tabbed at Coach of the Year. In addition, Union forward Judson Bjornstad was voted Freshman of the Year.
Five programs between the two all-conference squads were represented, with eight of the 10 student-athletes recognized as first time All-GSC recipients. The Chargers led the way with a conference-best four selections, including two first-teamers. Montevallo and GSC-newcomer Trevecca Nazarene followed with two honorees apiece, while Delta State and Valdosta State had one All-GSC honoree each.
Murr hauled in top player laurels as one of the GSC’s top shooters, finishing fourth in field goal percentage (.534) and three-point percentage (.414), while being first-overall in free three percentage (.937). In addition, the senior was among GSC leaders in scoring (fourth/20.9 ppg), assists (second/5.8 apg) as he averaged 31.4 minutes in 27 games for the Chargers.
Garnering top freshman honors, Bjornstad averaged 8.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game after starting all 28 games for the Bulldogs this season. The rookie forward shot 38.5 percent from the floor while knocking 81 percentage of attempts from the charity stripe. Among GSC leaders, Bjornstad was 22nd in rebounding, 12th in blocks per game (0.8).
In his first season at the helm, Hedgepeth led the Chargers to a GSC regular season title while becoming the third team in conference’s 54-year basketball history to do so in undefeated fashion. Under Hedgepeth, UAH went 22-0 in conference play, strung together a 27-game win streak, while ranking sixth among Division II leaders in scoring margin (+15.1) and third in field goal percentage (.523).
