GSC Men's Tennis Weekly Awards: March 12

The Gulf South Conference announced its men’s tennis weekly award winners of the 2025 season, following performances between March 2-9. Valdosta State swept the awards as Takeski Taco (player) and Julien Doitteau (freshman) were recognized.
 
Player of the Week:           
Takeshi Taco, Sr., Valdosta State
 
Taco helped the Blazers tally wins over Lander and top-ranked West Florida last week.
In singles, the senior went 2-0 logging wins over Lander’s Merlin Bellet (6-1, 6-2) from court two, before taking down sixth-ranked Miguel Cabrera from UWF (6-3, 7-6 (7-4)) while playing on court one. In doubles action, he and teammate Xaveam Van Wijk, registered back-to-back 7-6 (7-5) decisions against Lander’s Max Barriere/Bellet and fourth-ranked Diego Duran/Sebastian Rotelo from West Florida. As a result, Taco improved to 4-1 on the season in singles, while going to 6-0 in doubles.

Freshman of the Week:
Julien Doitteau, Valdosta State
 
Doitteau improved to 5-0 in singles action last week, tallying a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Lander’s Ismail ElShafei from court five, before defeating West Florida’s Alex Maulouet 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in conference play. This is the rookie third consecutive GSC Freshman of the Week award and his fourth of the season.
