BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Two Gulf South Conference teams were among the 32-team field that was announced for the 2025 NCAA Division II Football Championship on Sunday. West Florida and Valdosta State will represent the Conference when the playoffs begin with first round action on Saturday, November 22.
The announcement by the NCAA marks the 11th consecutive season that two or more GSC teams are among the tournament field’s of competitors.
NCAA PLAYOFF BRACKET
After missing the playoffs last season, West Florida enters as the second-ranked team in Super Region 2. The Argonauts went 9-1 during the regular season and claimed a share of the GSC title. They will begin their postseason at home as they host North Greenville.
Valdosta State secured its spot in the playoffs after earning the conference’s automatic bid and a share of the GSC title, following a 47-44 win overtime win at West Florida in the regular season finale. With a 6-4 record, the Blazers make their third consecutive playoff appearance. Valdosta State opens its postseason campaign on the road and will visit Albany State, the region’s top-seeded team.
GSC FOOTBALL NOTABLES:
- The GSC leads all Division II conferences will 13 football national titles. The conference holds an all-time playoff record of 141-86.
- The GSC has appeared in 22 national title games all-time, including six over the last eight seasons.
- This is the 11th consecutive season with two or more GSC teams in the NCAA Football Championship.
- Valdosta State and West Florida shared the GSC title for the first time since 2021. It is the third consecutive season Valdosta State shared or outright won the title. It is the first conference crown for West Florida since claiming a share in 2022.
- Earlier this season the GSC became the first NCAA conference, with four or more members, to have its entire league ranked in the AFCA Coaches Top-25.
