UAH, Montevallo Earn 2024 GSC Fair Play Award

The Gulf South Conference Fair Play Award recipients were announced Monday, Jan, 20, with the Alabama Huntsville women and Montevallo men’s soccer programs recognized.

The Chargers were honored after being booked a league-low eight times with seven yellow cards and one red card. UAH also tallied the fewest fouls, 108, in 16 total matches. This the first time Alabama Huntsville has won the award. Union and Montevallo were also considered.

Montevallo was booked a GSC-low 21 times in 16 matches during the 2024 campaign, with 19 yellow cards and two reds. The Falcons also logged the fewest fouls (161). UM was recognized for the first time in program-history. Lee and West Florida were also under consideration.

The GSC Soccer Fair Play Award is presented annually to the team that best portrays sportsmanship over the course of a full season. The three conference teams to have accumulated the fewest total cards—yellow and red combined—were nominated for the award. GSC coaches vote their respective top choice from the three-team pool but could not vote for their own team. The team that received the most votes earned the award.
