GSC Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards: Sept. 10

The Gulf South Conference announced its first women's soccer weekly award winners for the 2024 season, following the opening weekend of action from Sept. 2-8 

Offensive Player of the Week 
Mya Swinton, R-Sr., F, West Florida 

Swinton opened the campaign up with a two-goal performance in a 3-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State. The redshirt-senior led the Argonauts with four shots on goal in 54 minutes of playing time. She then led the forward line with 64 minutes on the pitch against Minnesota State while tallying two more shots.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Sydney Foy, Fr., D, Valdosta State 

Foy played all 180 minutes in Valdosta State’s two shutout victories this week over Middle Georgia and North Greenville. The freshman’s efforts helped the Blazer defense to allow only nine shots through two matches. She also finished with one shot on the week.

Goalkeeper of the Week 
Maciah Lipsey, Gr., GK, West Florida 

Lipsey recorded two clean sheets during the opening week as West Florida went 1-0-1 in its trip to Minnesota. The graduate keeper played a total of 175 minutes across both matches, including the full 90 against Minnesota State. She tallied two saves in each match, while facing seven total shots. Lipsey is the first-ever winner of the GSC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week.

Freshman of the Week 
JoHannah Peterson, Fr., M/D, West Florida 

Peterson was the lone freshman starter in West Florida’s two matches and played 80 and 90 minutes, respectively, on the defensive line in the matches. The freshman and the Argonauts’ defensive line held their opponents to two shots in both matches while not allowing a goal in either contest.
