Valdosta State's Ford Headlines GSC Women's Basketball D2CCA All-Region Selections

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Gulf South Conference had four representatives named as the 2023-24 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Women's Basketball South Region Teams were announced Thursday, March 14. The teams were voted on by the sports information directors in the South region.

Among those named, the GSC had three first-team selections led by D2CCA South Region Player of the Year Kalifa Ford (VSU). She was joined by Lee's Mallory Hampton and Union's Shanique Lucas. While Auburn Montgomery's Allasha Dudley earned second team accolades. 

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Ford was named the D2CCA South Region Player of the Year after leading Valdosta State to a 29-2 record and helping the Lady Blazers win the GSC regular season and tournament titles. The junior, who was also named GSC Player of the Year, averaged 14.2 points on 48.2 percent shooting and 4.4 rebounds to help the Lady Blazers earn the number one seed in the South Region in the Division II national tournament. 

Hampton was named to her first D2CCA First Team All-Region team after leading the Gulf South Conference in scoring with 19.2 points per game and led Lee to a 21-10 record. Lucas earned her second consecutive D2CCA All-Region nod after helping Union to a 29-3 record. The graduate student led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 12.3 points per game on 49.7 percent shooting.
