BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Gulf South Conference announced that Alabama Huntsville’s Katie Gerber was named as the 2023 GSC Champion Scholar-Athletes for women’s lacrosse.
PAST CHAMPIONSHIP SCHOLAR-ATHLETE WINNERS
Gerber, a graduate student from Louisville, Ky., earned the GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete Award with a 4.0 grade point average. She received her Bachelors of Science in nursing, and is working to earn a Master’s degree in nursing administration.
With the announcement, Gerber picked up Alabama Huntsville’s 12th GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete Award since it was introduced during the 2019-20 season. The two-time recipient of the award is the only UAH women’s lacrosse to-date to be recognized.
Away from the field and classroom, Gerber also spends time at Huntsville Hospital as a registered nurse (RN).
This is the fourth year that the Gulf South Conference has presented the Champion Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is given out at the final site of each GSC Championship event and awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among teams participating. Each student-athlete GPA is based on the most recently completed term, and the individual must have a minimum of 48 credit hours to be eligible for the award. Student-athletes are only eligible to win the award once per academic year.
