HARDING WINS THIRD STRAIGHT GSC MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TITLE
Hoover, AL—Harding Universitytook the top three places and earned its third consecutive Gulf South Conference Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Veteran's Park in Hoover, Ala. In the process, Bisons junior Daniel Kirwa made history.
HU topped the 11-team field with 24 points, easily outpacing West Florida (65) for its 10th overall conference crown – all of which have come in the last 11 years. Alabama-Huntsville (113) followed at third-place (73), while West Alabama (117) and West Georgia (130) rounded out the Top-5. Christian Brothers (6th, 151), Southern Arkansas (7th, 189), Henderson State(8th, 207), Valdosta State (9th, 223), North Alabama (10th, 255) and Arkansas-Monticello (11th, 349) completed the scoring.
HU’s Kirwa paced the Bisons’ contingent, which had six runners finish in the top-14, to win his third consecutive GSC Individual Medalist honor with a time of 25:15. He became the first runner in GSC history to win three straight Individual Medalist awards and just the second to win three overall, joining Troy’s Christian Palmer. HU’s stable of Philip Biwott (2nd, 25:36), Wojciech Kopec (3rd, 25:59) and Taylor Lively (6th, 26:19) all made the All-GSC First Team. UWF had GSC Freshman of the Year Seth Rosonina (5th, 26:10) and Eddie Pagan (8th, 26:26) on the First Team, while UAH’s Samson Too (4th, 26:08) and Mark Temple (9th, 26:28); CBU’s Nate Spears (7th, 26:21), and HSU’s Gabriel Ghioca (10th, 26:35) also made the list
Second Team All-GSC honors went to the 11th through 20th place finishers: SAU’s Mickey Hammer (11th, 26:38); HU’s Manase Busienei (12th, 26:43) and Ryan Johnson (14th, 26:46); UWG’s Jake Hudson (13th, 26:44); UAH’s Dante Dorsey (18th, 26:54); UWA’s Jonathan Sellers (17th, 26:52);and the UWF quartet of Christopher Hough (15th, 26:47), Jared Black (16th, 26:50), Dominique Sykes (19th, 26:57), and P.J. Orgass (20th, 27:01).
The GSC Head Coaches will vote on the GSC Coach of the Year award Monday afternoon.
