2010 GSC Volleyball Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. -- When West Florida needed its final point to win its match against North Alabama, it went to the player who has led the team all season long.

Katie Johnson, the GSC East Division Player of the Year, got the final kill of the match against the Lions to help the Argonauts to a 3-1 win (22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-23) over UNA to take home a third consecutive GSC title at the UWF Field House. Johnson had a match-high 12 kills and 10 digs for the Argos (28-6), who earn the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

After dropping the first set, UWF was able to take control by dominating the match at the net. The Argos had 15 total blocks, which ultimately forced UNA (21-9) into a slew of hitting errors. Abby Timmer had nine blocks (one solo), while Kara Gonzalez (one solo) and Chelsea Wilhoite each had five. All three joined Johnson on the All-Tournament Team, with Wilhoite taking home Most Outstanding Player honors.

Wilhoite had 11 kills and 13 digs, Gonzalez added 11 kills and Molly Pearce had 18 assists and 12 digs to pace UWF. Natalie Marsh had 12 kills and 11 digs while Sarah Roberts and Cara Gregg each had 11 kills for UNA. Lauren Greenhill had 24 digs while Hope Rayburn added 42 assists, 11 digs, and three kills for the Lions. Greenhill and Roberts were both All-Tournament Team selections, along with Sarah Von Lienen from Arkansas Tech.
