OXFORD, Ala. — Delta State and Trevecca Nazarene were victorious on Friday as the 2026 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship began with its single-elimination round play.
With the results, Delta State and Trevecca advance to the six-team double-elimination bracket which starts Saturday, May 2. Delta State will face No. 2-seed Lee at 6 pm CT, while Trevecca are slated to play No. 1-seed West Alabama at 2:30 pm CT. No. 3-seed Mississippi College and No. 4-seed West Florida kickoff the day two schedule at 11 am CT.

Delta State 9, UAH 5 | Box Score
The Statesmen used a four-run seventh to complete their rally and eliminate the Chargers with a 9-5 decision. Delta State’s Adrian Byrd earned the win, tossing nine strikeouts in nine innings, while surrendering five runs on seven hits. Meanwhile, UAH’s Jaxon Hay was dealt the loss allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits in five innings.
Delta State led 2-0 after the second as Austin Batts scored on a bases loaded walk while Cooper Walls crossed home on a wild pitch. The lead was short-lived though as UAH plated five in third, highlighted by a three-run blast to left by Gavin Galenza.
In the fifth, Tucker Jones helped Delta State trim the deficit as he had an RBI-triple and scored, making it 5-4. Austin Estes tied the game in the seventh thanks to consecutive wild pitches, after reaching on a lead-off double. The Statesmen also received runs in seventh from Levi Lang, Landon Holliman and Cade Greer. Delta State provided the final margin in the eighth as Jones pushed across Henley Parker.
Trevecca 4, Montevallo 3 | Box Score
The Trojans eliminated the Falcons, scoring all four runs in the first inning and cruised from there. Rylan Moses opened the game with a lead-off home run before a Jaxson Christ RBI-single made it 2-0. Cade Moore then singled to center to plate two more runs.
Montevallo erased the shutout in the sixth with Caleb Karll scored on a Mason Woolever single, making it 4-1. Later in the inning, McGwire Turner belted a two-run home run cutting the deficit to one. The offense though stalled out, tallying just one hit in the three innings.
UM’s Zach Wyatt was charged with the loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits in five innings. Trevecca’s Logan Harrell was credited with the complete-game win tossing nine strikeouts, allowing three runs, all unearned, on three hits.
