The Gulf South Conference announced its Football Players of the Week following Week 2 performances of the 2025 season. West Alabama quarterback Spencer Arceneaux (offensive), linebacker JT Hooten (defensive) as well as West Florida returner Tony Newsome and kicker Brogan Woeber (freshman) were each recognized.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Spencer Arceneaux, Sr., QB, West Alabama

• Second GSC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season.
• Led West Alabama’s fourth quarter rally as it defeated No. 18 Charleston, 28-24, while finishing with 303 total yards and three touchdowns.
• Completed 16-of-28 passes for two touchdowns and 213 yards.
• Rushed for a team-high 90 yards on seven carries, including a 71-yarder for the go-ahead touchdown with 4:13 remaining.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JT Hooten, So., LB, West Alabama

• Registered a career-high 17 total tackles, including eight solo stops.
• Had one tackle for loss, totaling two yards.
• Helped UWA to a 28-24 win over No. 18 Charleston.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tony Newsome, Jr., RS, West Florida

• Returned three punts, totaling 68 yards, in a 42-20 win over Shorter.
• Had a 56-yard return in the second quarter that resulted in a touchdown.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Brogan Woeber, Fr., K, West Florida

• Helped the Argonauts to a 42-20 win over Shorter.
• Went two-for-two in field goals, converting a 22 and 39-yarder, while also going four-for-four in extra points.
