BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — For the second straight year, West Florida has been selected as the favorite in the 2025 Gulf South Conference Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll, as the league also announced its preseason all-conference team and newcomer watchlist.
The poll and preseason team were determined by GSC’s 13 head women’s soccer coaches, who were not able to vote for their own team or student-athletes.
After sweeping both the regular-season and tournament titles last year, West Florida earned all 12 possible first-place votes, leading the preseason rankings with 144 points. Montevallo, last season’s regular-season and tournament runner-up, was picked second with 132 points and one first-place vote.

Lee was picked third, followed by Union in fourth, with Mississippi College rounding out the top five. Valdosta State was tabbed sixth, while Delta State and UAH placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
The 2025 GSC Preseason All-Conference Team features 14 student-athletes from six schools. The group is headlined by West Florida forward Mya Swinton, who was named GSC Offensive Player of the Year the last two seasons. She is among 10 preseason honorees who also earned postseason All-GSC recognition in 2024.
West Florida, Montevallo, and Lee each placed three players on the preseason team, followed by Union and Valdosta State with two apiece. Delta State earned one selection.
The conference also unveiled its 2025 Newcomer Watchlist, featuring 27 players from 11 schools. Names and information were submitted by each team’s head coach. Click here to see the complete list.
The 2025 campaign marks the 30th year of GSC women’s soccer. The schedule kicks off Thursday, Sept. 4, with conference action beginning September 17. The GSC Women’s Soccer Championship is set for Nov. 8–15, with the semifinal and final rounds returning to Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Ala.
