OXFORD, Ala. — West Florida won the 2025 Gulf South Conference Softball Championship in walk-off fashion, defeating top-seeded Auburn Montgomery, 7-6, on Sunday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
With the win the Argonauts secured the Gulf South's automatic place in the NCAA Division II South Region Championship. The Warhawks and the rest of the conference will wait to their names called on the NCAA Selection Show, slated for 9 am Central, on ncaa.com.
- First GSC Softball Championship title for the Argonauts since 2019 and fifth all-time.
- It was the third walk-off win for West Florida in this year's tournament.
- Down 6-5 in the seventh, Nevaeh Hayes was the hero for the Argos driving in the game-tying and winning runs with Kyndal Cornelius and Gianna Guerriero scoring on the play.
- UWF trailed 5-0 during the top half of the fourth, before Erin Moon and Olivia Keith combined for the team's opening run. Moon also drove in Bella Holiday in the seventh to make it 6-5.
- Emma Brice helped UWF cut the deficit to 5-3 heading in the fourth with a with a two-run double. She then singled in the seventh to score Holiday to make it 6-4.
- In the sixth, Reese Cauley showed some power with a home run, giving AUM a 6-3 advantage.
- AUM scored five unanswered runs, scoring twice in the first and third and once in the fourth.
- UWF's Hannah Harper collected the win and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She tossed four innings with two strikeouts, five hits and allowed two runs. AUM's Chelisa Newsome was charged with the loss allowing three runs on six hits.
- Joining Harper on the All-Tournament team were teammates Gianna Guerriero, Erin Moon and Jessie Baughan. AUM was represented by Cauley, Chloe Baynes and Arianna Machado. Alabama Huntsville had Sadie Thompson and Jada Henderson, while Mississippi College had Madelyn England and Madison Jenkins.
