West Florida Lift 2025 GSC Men’s Soccer Championship Trophy

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — West Florida won the 2025 Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Championship, as the second-seeded Argonauts prevailed over top-seed Mississippi College, 2-0, claiming the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship. 

The Argonauts captured a conference-best 12th Championship trophy, while making their 20th title game appearance. It also marked West Florida’s third tournament title in five years. For Mississippi College this was its first-ever appearance in the Championship final.

Scoreless at the half, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 80th minute by Adrian Rodriguez found the back of the net. Nikolas Rodriguez Alzate assisted on the goal as he played the ball into box before Rodriguez put it into the top left corner. Kendrick Hernandez then made it 2-0 in the 84th minute as a defensive lapse by Mississippi College allowed him to slot the ball into the goal. 

 Mississippi College was able to generate chances late, registering five shots during the final 16 minutes of play, finishing the afternoon with 11 total shots, while West Florida had 18. Both teams finished with seven shots on goal apiece.  

Rodriguez was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammates Joao Ribero, Callum Edwards, and Rodriguez Alzate. Mississippi College was represented by Ben Russell Berko, Ben Britton and Gage Sorey. UAH placed Harvey Hewson and Oli Orzechowski, while AUM was represented by Benjamin Hoffmann and Robiston Lukau. 

GSC teams will now tune into the NCAA Selection Show set on Monday, Nov. 17 at 6 pm CT at NCAA.com. Last season, the Gulf South was represented by two teams in the competitive Super Region 2 bracket.
