GSC Women's Basketball Coaching Duo Selected to 2024 NCAA Basketball Academy

INDIANAPOLIS – Two Gulf South Conference women’s basketball coaches were selected for the as part of the 2024 NCAA College Basketball Academy. The event took place July 27-29 in at the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center in Rock Hill, S.C.

Representing the GSC was Montevallo head coach Olivia Chapman and Mississippi College head coach Greg Long. The duo are the latest Gulf South coaches to participate in this year, which had six selections in the program’s first year in 2023.

Academy coaching staffs were composed of Divisions II and III, NAIA and junior college men’s and women’s college basketball coaches and high school coaches. For the men’s academy, the coaches were selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches in coordination with the NCAA. On the women’s side, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association facilitated the process for member coaches to apply to work the academy.

Chapman concluded her first season as head coach of the Falcons, leading the program to a 13-14 record and 11-13 mark in GSC play. The first-year coach worked with the 2023-24 Freshman of the Year 

Long meanwhile participated for the second consecutive year. The Lady Choctaw head coach will enter his fifth season at the helm, after directing Mississippi College to a berth in the GSC Women’s Basketball Championship with a 14-12 record and finishing the year with a 15-15 mark overall.

The academy will provide prospective men’s and women’s student-athletes a sample of the college basketball experience. These developmental summer academies pair high-level basketball competition with life skills instruction.
