BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After a strong showing in the winter sports season—basketball and indoor track & field—Lee took over the top spot in the overall standings for the 2023-24 Gulf South Conference All-Sports Trophy.
COMPLETE STANDINGS
The Flames added 34 points to their overall total from the fall, giving them 81.875 points, allowing them climb two spots to No. 1. Lee also bumped up two places to lead the men’s sports standings with 35.250 points, while also overtaking the women’s standings with 46.625 points.
Lee’s ascent in the standings was spurred by the men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams which claimed maximum points after each won a conference title. In addition, men’s basketball finished second in the regular season standings before advancing to the semifinals, while women’s basketball was the tournament runners-up after finishing third in the regular season.
In the overall standings, Mississippi College held at second with 73.375 points. Alabama Huntsville moved into third (67.375), while previous leader West Florida was fourth (62.125). West Georgia (50.375) jumped up four spots to round out the top five.
The Overall All-Sports Trophy counts all sports that a school sponsors, with its regular-season finish in the standings counting towards 75 percent of the final rank a tournament finish making up the other 25 percent. Affiliate members (Chowan, North Greenville and Spring Hill) are included in the calculations, but do not qualify for the All-Sports Trophy.
