Valdosta State Win GSC Women's Basketball Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — For the first time since 2017, Valdosta State lifted the Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball Championship trophy, following a 63-58 win over Lee.

As a result, the Lady Blazers stretched their win streak to 26 straight, the longest active streak in Division II women’s basketball. The win also gave Valdosta State the GSC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship.

VSU, Lee and the rest off the conference will find out its fate this evening with the selection show scheduled for 10:30 pm ET on NCAA.com.

Valdosta State was led offensive by all-tournament selection Aleisha Curry’s 15 points. Taylor Searcey followed with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists en route being name  the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

The all-tournament also included Valdosta State’s Kalifa Ford, Lee’s Mallory Hampton and Haylee Johnson, AUM’s Grace O’Gara and Union’s Shanique Lucas.

Lee was led by 17 points from Hampton with Anna Muhonen followed with 15 points. 

Collectively, Lee completed 21-of-51 (..412) shots including 5-of-23 (.217) from three-point range, while Valdosta State made 21-of-52 from the field and 6-of-16 from behind the arc. VSU also finished with 39-29 advantage in rebound.
