The Gulf South Conference announced its baseball weekly award winners for week two of the 2024 season, based on performances from February 5-11.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JT Vance, Jr., OF, Mississippi College
Vance provided valuable to the Mississippi College run support during the second week of the season as he posted 11 RBI helping the Choctaws go 3-1. The junior outfielder was 8-for-15 at the plate with .533 batting average while slugging 1.267 with a .588 OBP. He also scored seven times, had seven extra base knocks including two home runs and a triple. Vance’s highlight performance of the week included a 3-for-4 outing and saw him accounted for 11-of-21 runs, including a GSC season-high seven RBI, as the Choctaws routed Miles 21-5 in game two of the series.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Holland Townes, R-Sr., RHP, Mississippi College
Townes was dominate in the second start of the season en route to being credited with his first win of the year in the series opener versus Miles. The right-hander worked 7.1-scoreless innings scattering three hits and surrendering just one walk with seven strikeouts in the outing. Miles was also limited to just five baserunners with Townes on the mound and posted a combined .130 batting average as the Choctaws recorded a combined shutout with a 6-0 win.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Elijah Ramsey, Fr., OF, Union
Ramsey posted solid numbers as Union swept its four-game weekly schedule. The rookie outfielder was 5-for-11 (.455) at the plate, scored once, drove in three and stole two bases. His standout performance was a 3-for-4 outing in game two of the series against Washburn which saw him drove in three of Union’s nine runs as the Bulldogs won 9-8.
