Lee, Trevecca Advance to GSC Volleyball Championship Second Round

Fifth-seeded Lee and sixth-seeded Trevecca Nazarene advanced to the second round of the 2024 2024 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championship, which began Tuesday.

The Lady Flames outlasted eighth-seeded Montevallo in five sets and will now face fourth-seeded Valdosta State; meanwhile the Trojans are now set to square off with third-seeded Mississippi College, after they logged a 3-1 win over seventh-seeded Union.

The GSC Championship will resume Friday, Nov. 22 with second round taking place at the UWF Field House in Pensacola, Fla. Top-seeded West Florida will serve as host for the final three rounds with tickets available online through the UWF Athletic Ticket Office.

Lee def. Montevallo, 3-2
Sara Palumbo led the Lee attack with a match-high 17 kills and .424 hitting percentage to go along with 11 digs. Payton Danley chipped in with 14 kills, while Berra Soyler had 40 assists. Izzy Denton anchored the Lady Flames backline with 32 digs. 

Montevallo was led by Katie Wilkerson’s 14 kills. Blakeley Robbins and Colton Thompson combined for 41 assists. Ava Wind finished with 20 digs. 

Lee won the match 25-13, 23-25, 19-25, 25-20. 15-7. It finished with .232 team hitting percentage while limiting the Falcons to a .110-clip. 

Trevecca def. Union, 3-1
Addison Cunnagin and Emma Titus headlined the Trevecca offense with 13 kills apiece. Skias Hainline dished out a match-high 37 assists and scooped 15 digs. Maddie Wilds had a team-high 17 digs. 

Reese Owens led Union with a team-high 10 kills accompanied by 13 digs. Abby Davis posted 17 assists. Jordan Moore finished with 3.5 blocks. Dylan Tolliver was one four Lady Bulldogs with double-digit digs finishing with a team-high 16.

Trevecca won the match, 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16. Collectively, it narrowly outhit Union, .153 to .101, while recorded a 7-5 margin in service aces.
