HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Auburn Montgomery lifted the 2024 Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Championship trophy on Saturday at Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Ala., with a 1-0 win over top-seeded West Florida.
With the victory, the Warhawks secured their first GSC title in program history and the Gulf South’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men’s Championship. The Argonauts and the rest of the conference will wait to hear their name during the NCAA Selection Show set for Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 pm CT and can be seen on NCAA.com.
Benjamin Hoffman accounted for lone goal in the 28th minute. Hoffman’s initial attempt was blocked by a UWF defender, before converting collecting it and finding the back of the net.
AUM logged its ninth clean sheet of the season, while William Blake notched his sixth after making three saves. He was eventually named to the all-tournament team and garnered Most Outstanding Player honors.
AUM was also represented on the all-tournament team with by Brayden Strait, Sean Keane and Adam Hanson. West Florida’s Caue Novaes, Kendrick Hernandez and Mar Aegisson were also recognized, along with Christian Brothers duo Nathan Aupied and Philip Jauch and Spring Hill’s Alessandro Abate and Adrian Rodriguez.
The Argonauts finished with 57 percent possession for the game while tallying 13 total shots and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks when time expired. AUM record 12 total shots with six on frame.
