West Florida, AUM Advance to GSC Men's Soccer Title Game

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Top-seeded West Florida and third-seed Auburn Montgomery were victorious in semifinal round action of the 2024 Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Championship on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex in Huntsville, Ala.

The Argonauts advance to their sixth consecutive Championship final with an overwhelming 4-2 decision over fifth-seeded Spring Hill. The Warhawks meanwhile will play in its first-ever title game as they avenged a heavy-handed setback to Christian Brothers earlier in the year. 

This will be the first time since 2013 that the No. 1 and No. 3-seeded teams will play in the tournament’s final game. 

The GSC Men’s Soccer Championship final is slated for noon CT on Saturday, Nov, 16 at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex and will be streamed on FloCollege and on the FloSports app.

#1 West Florida 4, #5 Spring Hill 2 Highlights
Following Oskar Sewtz’s goal in the fifth minute West Florida never looked back it was largely one-way traffic. Mar Aegisson led the Argonauts with a brace scoring in the 30th and 54th minute, while Marcus Pereira scored in the 64th minute.

Spring Hill trimmed the deficit to 2-1 before the half as Alessandro Abate found on the back of net in the 42nd minute. Down 4-1, the Badgers again cut the deficit in half late in the half as Adrian Rodriguez converted from the spot in the 78th minute. 

West Florida outshot Spring Hill, 13-9, while posting an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. Both keepers finished with saves. 

#2 Christian Brothers, 1 #3 AUM 1 (AUM adv. 5-3 PKs) Highlights
With team deadlocked at 1-1 after 110 minutes, AUM keeper William Blake made a game-changing save in the shootout and helping the Warhawks to their first trip to the GSC Men’s Soccer Championship final.

During regulation, AUM went into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead as Logan Roach found the back of net in the 32nd minute from an in-swinging corner kick. Shortly after intermission, the Bucs notched the equalizer as AJ Agbede scored in the 47th minute. 

The offenses for both teams kept the opposing keepers busy as Christian Brothers finished with a 28-25 margin in total shots and held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. AUM’s William Blake finished with eight saves, while Vicent Sanchis Olmedo had four.
