The Gulf South Conference announced its 2024 weekly men's soccer award winners following matches from Oct. 14-20.
Offensive Player of the Week
Oli Orzechowski, So., F, Alabama Huntsville
Orzechowski scored all three of the Chargers’ goals this past week along with six shots on net to secure his first GSC Offensive Player of the Week award this season. In a tight match against Delta State, the sophomore opened scoring in the 19
th-minute to put the Chargers up 1-0 while registering two shots on goal. Then, Orzechowski netted the first of two goals in the 12
th-minute before scoring his second goal in the 54
th-minute, which would turn out to be the game winner in a 2-1 win over Mississippi College.

Defensive Player of the Week
Rueben Jones, Sr., D, Christian Brothers
Jones was part of a backline that only conceded one goal through two matches as Christian Brothers extended its unbeaten streak to six matches. In a 1-1 draw against West Florida, the senior helped to hold the Argos scoreless for 84 minutes after a goal in the sixth-minute. This defensive stand would be followed up with the preservation of a shutout in a 1-0 victory over Spring Hill where Jones and the Buccaneers’ backline only allowed two shots on goal. He also scored the game-winning goal in the 71
st-minute.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Adan Gonzalez, Sr., GK, Trevecca Nazarene
Gonzalez earned his second GSC Goalkeeper of the Week this season following a week that saw him produce his third clean sheet of the season, his seventh-career shutout, and make seven saves. In Trevecca’s lone match, Gonzalez preserved a 1-0 victory with seven saves on 20 shots faced, all culminating in his third clean sheet of the season. This also marked Trevecca’s first win ever in the all-time series against Lee.

Freshman of the Week
Ronny Wakelin, Fr., M, West Alabama
Wakelin registered a goal, an assist, and two shots on goal to collect his first-career GSC Freshman of the Week honor. Against Mississippi College, Wakelin started his active week with a shot on goal. He then followed this up by assisting on West Alabama’s third goal of the match before eventually sealing the game with his first-career goal in the 87
th-minute as the Tigers held on for a 4-2 win against Delta State.
